Michael Grant’s west coast memorial was held on Aug 19th 2012 and it was everything we hoped it would be. I think it’s fair to say everyone in attendance learned more about Michael and attained a greater appreciation for him and his music. It was an emotionally charged event, both sad and painful, but also filled with joy and appreciation in remembering the good times with Mike.
Many people came together to make this event the powerful and special tribute it was. Michael’s brother Luke was the driver behind the whole affair, arranging the facility, food, and coordinating the actual event. Michael’s mother Betsy, father Michael, and brother Andrew travelled from Connecticut to provide huge significance to the memorial. Horacio Colmenares was instrumental, providing sound engineering, equipment, and audio and video production. My wife Vasiliki provided hours of work creating a touching slide show, memorial book, and flowers. Tony DeVita was fantastic with his inspiring performance of “Sleep” by Savatage. My friends and bandmates Melanie Sisneros and Craig Anderson both gave stirring performances of Mike’s song The Passing.
Everyone who gave a speech eulogizing Mike was wonderful. Betsy Grant’s speech was illuminating and touching. Andrew Grant was evocative and his acapella rendition of “Abide with Me” was heartrending. Luke captured Michael’s personality and humor to a T. And Michael’s father’s candid speech was a powerful coda to the eulogies. Some others who also spoke were my wife Vasiliki who remembered Mike’s big heart and kindness, Melody Schoenfeld who recounted highlights of her long history of friendship with Mike, Kragen Lum (Prototype, Heathen) who remembered Mike and his music, Kari VanCamp who recalled Mike’s supportive nature, and others who spoke of their special connection with Mike.
I sincerely thank all involved and all who attended the event. It was truly a fitting tribute to Michael.

California’s traditional melodic metal band CRESCENT SHIELD, which features the talents of former ONWARD vocalist Michael Grant and former DESTINY’S END guitarist Dan DeLucie, have posted a video of the band performing the title track from their debut album “The Last of my Kind”.
The video comes off their forthcoming DVD of their 2008 performance at the Keep it True festival in Germany. The DVD will only be available in a limited-edition pressing of their forthcoming CD “The Stars of Never Seen”. The album will be released by Cruz del Sur Music on the following dates:

The band enlisted the talents of legendary metal producer/engineer Bill Metoyer to co-engineer, co-mix, and master the new album. The resulting recording is glorious combination of the raw energy of 80s metal and the full dynamic thunder of a modern album. This powerful collection of songs along with a stunning 16 page booklet put together by Travis Smith with artwork from talented comic book artist Gerry Alanguilan make “The Stars of Never Seen” an anticipated release for fans of classic melodic metal everywhere.
The band has also made the song “Lifespan” from the forthcoming album available for streaming on crescentshield.com and the band’s myspace page myspace.com/crescentshield.
CRESCENT SHIELD’s lineup is completed by drummer Craig Anderson (IGNITE, ENGINE) and bassist Melanie Sisneros (ex-NEW EDEN, THE IRON MAIDENS, SINERGY), two veterans of the Los Angeles music scene.
